Irma Thomas - Here I Am, Take Me.
- Jul 22nd 2010I always have the tendency to dig as far as I can go with artists I’m intrigued by, which is maybe why I may appear to favor some singers over others. I love the process though, it’s a rewarding obsession.
This Irma Thomas track is from her 1967 sessions in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This LP is her take on the Deep Southern soul that was very popular at the time. “Here I Am, Take Me” is a typical story of unrequited love, but it’s not about the lyrics. It’s about Irma’s pleading, her near-weeping at the climax of the song. Gives me chills.
